Almost everyone has New Years resolutions, and a good amount of them are to “lose weight” or “get in better shape.” Most people don’t follow through with these resolutions, as we all know. With that in mind, I’ve got something easy for you to try to potentially kick-start a healthier year for you. All you’ve gotta do is this – try not eating any meat or dairy for 1 week. 7 days isn’t all that hard. All you’ve gotta do is fill yourself up with fresh produce, leafy greens, legumes (beans, etc.), and the occasional tofu, and you’re good to go. “Where will I get my protein?” you say. Well, did you know broccoli has more protein than steak per 100 calories? “But I’ll be so hungry!” you might say. Well, if you focus on loading up on tons of nutrient-dense plants (kale, collard greens, spinach, bok choy, romaine, artichokes, carrots, tomatoes, etc.), fruits and whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, etc.), you can literally eat as much as you want. Trust me, you’ll be full. There is so much fiber in these plants that your stomach will be satisfied until your next meal.
When I tell people about my diet changes, most people say “oh man, I could never give up meat. I just love it too much.” That’s fine, but most people don’t realize how easy eating a plant-based diet is. Just try staying away from meat and refined carbs (white bread, white pasta, etc.) for a week. I dare you. You’ll feel lighter and have more energy, I promise. Let me know if you’re going to do it – I’d love to hear how it goes.
