Plant-Based Men: The Biggest Misconception
The term “plant-based diet” has been injected in the American lexicon, and for good reason. Bill Clinton and Steve Wynn are just two of the many high-profile men who have recently made the switch to eating plant-based and singing its praises. Each day this week, some of the most respected plant-based men will answer a different question about eating a plant-based diet.
MBG: What’s the biggest misconception about eating a plant-based diet?
Bob Harper, The Biggest Loser: That I don’t get enough protein. If I have to hear that question one more time!!! People must realize that you can get plenty of protein living a plant based diet. You just have to plan your meals as anyone who lives a healthy life would have to do.
Brendan Brazier, Thrive Diet: That it’s difficult. It’s really not. As with anything new it will take a bit of time to adjust to, but once your body makes the transition, it becomes second nature.
Rip Esselstyn, Engine 2 Diet: There are so many but if I had to pick one it would be “where do you get your protein.” I like to tell people if you breath you are getting enough oxygen and if you eat you are getting enough protein. Period.
Rich Roll, Ultraman: That you can’t get enough protein. That you can’t perform as an athlete. That you will be anemic, undernourished, lack energy and general vitality. All patently false.
Mike Anderson, Rave Diet: That you won’t get enough protein. I’ll state it again here and now: you would have to be starving not to get enough protein. This is plain, simple and proven. If people think Russians were brain-washed during the Soviet era, that’s nothing compared to how Americans feel about protein.
