I was perusing the cereal aisle of my local Whole Foods yesterday, looking for some good low-sugar and whole-grain breakfast items, when lo and behold, this big red box with the words “Engine 2” grabbed my attention. It turns out that E2 is now making products to line grocery store shelves, which is fantastic news! I’d seen “Rips Big Bowl,” Rip Esselstyn’s patented mix of cereals, raisins, and oats, in the bulk section from time to time, and I’d been putting together my own mixture of various cereals as well, but this really makes it incredibly convenient. If you’re looking for an occasional cold cereal to mix in with your oatmeal/smoothie/tofu scramble rotation in the morning, look no further.
As I was in the check-out line, I asked the grocery manager if there were any other E2 foods around, and he told me about the crackers you see in the photo above, so I ran back and grabbed one. They’re 100% whole grain, oil-free, and salt-free, and they taste delicious. Perfect with a smear of Cedar brand fat-free hummus (a known favorite of the Esselstyn family). The grocery manager also told me that they’re planning on stocking additional E2 items in early 2013!
Next time you’re shopping at your local Whole Foods, ask about “Engine 2” foods, and if they have them, buy them! The best way to ensure plant-strong foods staying in your store is by purchasing them as much as possible.
