Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Cactus Cooler, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist…liquid crack? Soda is a terrible habit, and even the Diet Sodas lead to weight gain, and it’s incredibly addictive. One of the keys to fighting any kind of food addiction is to replace the bad foods and bad habits with good habits. When it comes to soda, which is incredibly corrosive to your body among other things (have you ever seen it clean a car battery?), one of the best ways to cut it out of your daily routine is to replace it with sparkling water, which is essentially harmless. My wife and I recently purchased a Sodastream, since we’d been going through bottle after bottle of Trader Joe’s sparkling water, and it’s truly amazing. I know it’ll save a bunch of money in the long run, but right now we just notice how much more convenient it is. We don’t use the flavor packets (they’re full of all sorts of artificial nonsense), but we flavor our waters with a splash of juice, such as pomegranate, tart cherry, or grape. If you make fresh vegetable juice, mixing it with sparkling water also makes is more fun to drink, especially for kids. I know these things seem gimmicky, trust me I thought they were too, but if you can’t seem to shake your soda addiction, this could very well be the replacement you need to help you kick that dangerous habit. Avoid those nasty syrupy flavor packets though and use a little juice for flavoring (want to know the healthiest juice to use?). I’m sure you’ve seen a Sodastream around – you can buy them literally everywhere – or you can order one online. Do yourself a favor and pick one up.
