Ah, cookbooks. In the four or so years since I made my dietary change, I’ve acquired a seemingly endless amount of cookbooks from various places, and they’re now nearly completely taking over our apartment. I like having a big collection of cookbooks, but to be honest, most of them just sit on the shelf collecting dust. If only there were a cookbook that combined the best recipes from my favorite plant-based authors and provided me with a curated selection of delicious recipes to make…
…and that’s exactly what “The China Study All-Star Collection” is all about. This cookbook has selected the best offerings from the likes of Lindsay Nixon (Happy Herbivore), Chef AJ, John and Mary McDougall, Laura Theodore (The Jazzy Vegetarian), Del Sroufe (Forks over Knives and “Better Than Vegan”), LeAnne Campbell (The China Study Cookbook), Dreena Burton, and many more. The book is packed with recipes for baked goods, a wide variety of breakfasts, smoothies, soups, salads, tacos, entrees, and desserts, ranging from the very simple to some more elaborate concoctions that would impress company.
Many of the recipes in the cookbook are ones I’ve tried over the years, but they happen to be some of my favorites, and it’s incredibly convenient to have such a solid amount of my go-to recipes in one place. More importantly, the new recipes I’ve tried so far are absolutely fantastic. In particular, my wife made a creamy alfredo pasta recipe (using cashews and almonds) that was one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had, and the BBQ portobello sandwiches (Recipe here) have more than satisfied my deep-seeded cravings for Memphis Barbecue.
This cookbook is perfect for anyone just getting into plant-based cuisine, or anyone who wants to simplify their life and cut down on how many cookbooks they have in their regular rotation. If you’ve just watched “Forks Over Knives” and are inspired to make a dietary change, or if you’re looking for some new recipes but don’t want to buy a million cookbooks to find ones you like, “The China Study All-Star Collection” might be the perfect book to pick up.
